Take it Indoors: Enroll in an Osteo Exercise Class

 

Elder Services’ popular Osteo Exercise Classes are now going strong in five locations across the Cape. These classes are designed to help those with a diagnosis of Osteoporosis or Osteopenia prevent a worsening of their condition.
The schedules and enrollment process varies by location, but all classes are offered free of charge and taught by volunteers trained by clinicians at Spaulding Rehabilitation.

 

Barnstable Adult Community Center, 825 Falmouth Rd, Hyannis

  • Schedule: Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:45 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.
  • Trainers: Sue Parnell, Sheila Curtis, and Christine Cummings.
  • Enrollment Procedure: Enroll as a “user” of the Barnstable Adult Community Center. You will then be directed to the Osteo instructor to complete the Osteo Participant Acknowledgement Form.

First United Methodist Church Chatham, 569 Main St, Chatham

  • Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. -9:30 a.m.
  • Trainers: Liz McNair, Gail Conroy, and Louise Massa
  • Enrollment Procedure: There is a waitlist for these classes so please call Dawn Ericson-Taylor, Volunteer Resource Manager, at 508-258-2490 to be added to the waitlist.

First Church of Harwich, Parish House, 690 Main Street, Harwich

  • Schedule: Mondays from 11 a.m. – 12 noon
  • Enrollment Procedure: No pre-registration required. All participants must complete an Osteo Participant Acknowledgement form on site, prior to participating.

Mashpee Senior Center, 26 Frank E. Hicks Drive, Mashpee 

  • Schedule: Wednesdays and Fridays from 12 noon – 1 p.m.
  • Trainer: Christine Perreault
  • Enrollment Procedure: Pre-registration with the Mashpee Council on Aging is required; no walk-ins. Call 508-539-1440. All attendees will complete ESCCI’s Osteo Participant Acknowledgement Form.

Sandwich Center for Active Living, 70 Quaker Meetinghouse Rd, Forestdale

  • Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. – 9 a.m.
  • Trainer: Mary Cox
  • Enrollment Procedure: Class is open to Sandwich residents only. Enroll as a “user” of the Sandwich Council on Aging, and you will be directed to the Osteo instructor to complete the Osteo Participant Acknowledgement Form.
