Café Saborosa Opening May 6 at the Mashpee Senior Center. A new twist on Senior Social Dining!
Renown jazz vocalist Candida Rose will be on hand to celebrate the Grand Opening of Café Saborosa, which puts a new twist on Senior Social Dining.
“The goal of the Café is to encourage more people to try Senior Social Dining,” said Sarah Franey, Community Services Officer at Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands. Saborosa means “tasty” in Portuguese and the Café will feature foods from Portugal, Cape Verde and the Caribbean. These flavors will be warmly familiar to some diners but for others, new and different.
Elder Services offers social dining at four locations in Barnstable County and at the Saltmarsh Senior Center on Nantucket. Beginning May 6, we’ll be adding Saborosa Café Mondays to the luncheon schedule at our Mashpee site and featuring selections from the Caribbean menu developed by our partners at City Fresh Foods.
Meals-on-Wheels subscribers in Barnstable County were introduced to City Fresh’s Caribbean option in the fall of 2022. It was enthusiastically embraced by diners, one of whom wrote to us:
“Kudos to your Caribbean chef! I lived in Jamaica and love Island food. I don’t know all the Latin food, but it is amazing!!”
Entertainment at Café Saborosa’s Grand Opening will be provided by Candida Rose. A 2nd generation American-born Cape Verdean, born and raised in New Bedford, Candida Rose is a performer and music educator. Her music is informed by the rhythms and melodies of her heritage, but infused with the overtones and undertones of jazz, rhythm and blues, and gospel to create a sound that is fresh and unique. Critics have described it as having “just the right touch of international spice.”
