Money Management Program

Overview

The Massachusetts Money Management Program is a free service that assists low income elders who are at risk of losing their independence due to an inability to manage their own finances. The Money Management Program is collaboratively sponsored by the Executive Office of Elder Affairs, Mass Home Care and AARP Massachusetts. This program is operated locally through Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands.

Through the Money Management Program, a trained, insured, and supervised volunteer is matched with an older adult who needs help with bill paying and other routine financial tasks. Available services range from organization and keeping track of financial and medical insurance papers to establishing a budget, helping write checks, balancing checkbooks, interpreting statements, and sorting mail.

Eligibility

These services are offered free of charge to individuals who qualify. Eligibility is based on age (must be 60 or older), asset limitations, and income guidelines.
